The new sightseeing spots, which began to be constructed in 2000, are scattered along the 18-kilometer-long road winding around the East Lake. They are linked up by the road with the Tingdao spot of the Pear Garden, the Chu City, the Plum Garden and the Provincial Museum, which stores abundant cultural relics of the Chu State including the Chinese Bells (unearthed from the tomb of Marquis Yi of a small kingdom called Zeng dating back to 2400 years ago). The average distance between the sightseeing spots is about 2 kilometers, which facilitates a walking tour for enjoying the different sights around the lake.
The Chu Traditional Park is located to the east of Yuguang Village opposite the Pear Garden Hospital of Hubei, and covers an area of 3.16 hectares. It is marked by a style of garden architecture with Chu cultural features and the traditional landscape design. The plants in the park are mainly local ones of Hubei, such as lotus, chrysanthemum, mulberry and bush vetch. There are footpaths for tourists inside the park. At the main gate, which is made of Yuanyangdou, there is a “screen with 51 painted animals”, and at the dominating height of the park there is a statue of “prayer for rain”. All around the park can be seen statues and carvings characteristic of the Chu cultural flavor.
The Bathing Beach is built close to the Huguang (Lakeview) Pavilion, where fine sea sand is laid out to make a sandy beach covering over 10,000 square meters. With limpid water, the shoals are more than 20,000 square meters in area. The luxuriant palm trees around the beach well create a sea-beach atmosphere, and the reefs, stone boats and pseudo-classic sailboats on the outer side of the bathing area have formed a unique sight in water.
The Water-Friendly Platform is located between E’zui and No.1 Gate of Moshan Hill, and along the lakeside of Guozhenghu. It stretches 650 meters in length and its 3 meters in width and 50 centimeters above the water surface. The embankment, which is greened up and designed only for tourists (not vehicles), not only presents an impressive sight of its own but offers a nice view of the East Lake. |
