I had planned to play golf on this rainy Sunday morning so that I wouldn't focus on what I dislike the most about Wuhan. The Weather! It is either too hot or too cold; and always very wet. People in Wuhan seem to take this in stride and maintain friendly attitude and community spirit It's this that brings me to What I like best about people in Wuhan!
In my past years in Wuhan the city has made a lot of progress with new buildings, constantly improved development zones, and major infrastructure improvements. However, only the people of a city can make it a good place to live in and the Wuhanese accomplish this very well.
As a foreigner in the city I have always felt safe and comfortable among the Wuhanese. When I need any assistance, even if I have not asked for help, the people of Wuhan have always come forward to help my family and myself. This includes all the public officials right down to the young girl who sweeps up the street every day near my office.
As I stated earlier Wuhan has made many improvements over the last years. The air and streets are cleaner; many public park areas have been enlarged or improved. I am sure that Wuhan and the Zone have many projects to continue to improve the environment of the city. I would long for the city to continue these programs, but put more resources in critical environmental concerns of domestic sewerage treatment, proper industrial waste and domestic trash collection and disposal systems.
I have watched with great interest the improvements and attempted improvements the city has made in the traffic control. We have gone from what Americans would call the Wild West, to improved streets andnew intersections with traffic lights and crosswalks. However, whenthe police are not around many Wuhaneses & VIPs think the rules do notapply to them. It i good to see the improvements, but they must be sup-ported with continuous public and school education programs that teach everyone the rules of law and safety, A foreigner's greatest fear is that they will be directly or indirectly involved in an accident and unfairly punished or forced to pay even when the law says they were not wrong!
I like many of the scenic, historical and cultural sites in and around the city of Wuhan, like the towers or many of the temples. Wuhan is a vibrant and growing city, constantly changing and improving. For me this makes Wuhan a great place to be, it is never boring and there are always new things to learn and new challenges to complete. I am happy to be here and hope that in my time in Wuhan I will try my best to contribute to the economy, improvement and growth of the city. |
