I came to Wuhan with my wife in May of 1998 and planned to live here for three years. It was not my first time to China, I had led some French reporters to the Dongfeng-Citroen Corporation before,to visit the modernized workshop and to make them know more about Fukang sedans. Now, I am the deputy director of manpower resource department, cooperating with a Chinese director, bringing the Sino-French joint venture some western methods and thoughts on managing manpower resource. The methods are mainly concerned with personnel evaluation, personnel training, personnel classifying and so on. To arouse the personnel's enthusiasm is a very important part too, it related to every individual, which is understandable in all the countries and all the enterprises. We always think about how to make every employee devote himself to the work; what is the best way to certificate and award the employees for their ability; what kind of career in the enterprise is up to the employees to fully realize their life value.
We cooperate familiarly, looking for the answers to the questions sparing no effort and studying the way to conciliate Chinese culture and western technology.
Referring to my life in spare time, both my wife and I are likely to live in Wuhan. We are well arranged here. Although people here are quite curious about us foreigners, they are usually smiling, friendly and willing to help us. And we can also see that, the municipal governmem nas got a great progress on putting the transportation in order, which can even match those in metropolises abroad. The living facilities of the citizens are perfected step by step: more and more new living districts are standing up, more and more supermarkets and shopping mails are opening. and the hygiene conditions are improving. We really feel the atmosphere of the city developing in big steps. However,we have a wish, that is the modernization of the city wouldn't cut down Wuhan's feature ot ils own. such as the peddlers in busy areas, “ma-mu”(tri-cycles to serve clients, “biandan”(porters in the street) and small restaurants. We usually go to these places, for we feel close to the local citizens there. It shall be a great pity if these simple but inspired sides, which are on the decline actually, would disappear by and by. Of course, even though it is rather difficult to mediate the modernization and tradition, I am sure the government will try the best to keep the city's humanistic culture of it's oen-for it is the place the city's spirit lies, it's the real property for ever.
On the 50's anniversary of the People's Republic of China, I sincerely wish people in Wuhan enjoy the feast as well as the welfare lives. |
